Mural: Thai figures in New Orleans

A small mural that I painted on the two sides of the doorway of a small restaurant in New Orleans, at the request of the owner: Small Thai figures that are supposed to guard the temples in Thailand and ward off evil spirits. I painted these back in the early 1990s and as far as I know they're still there, they survived Hurricane Katrina, along with other storms, although the restaurant has changed owners and changed names, from the Siam Café to the Dragons Den. Even so, they have taken some pains to preserve the paintings, and I greatly appreciate that.

Above are some more recent photos, from 2014. Nice to see that whoever felt the need to paint the building red also felt the need to once again paint around, very carefully, the Thai figures — presumably to continue the work of warding off the evil spirits.

Sketch made for first guy on left side of the doorway. A fair amount of improvisation went into painting the final.
